PVSA Bronze Award

Contribution in Year:

2020

Contribution in Year 2020: Through the DYC platform, I was able to contribute 100+ community hours by sharing my skills with many other student learners from home.
Hosting my workshops through DYC has constantly pushed me to be better and develop my skills more. The questions and perspectives of the students had made me think deeper and approach them differently. Design Your Careers platform isn’t just about sharing skills or getting community hours, it is about interacting, learning, improving, reinventing yourself, reflecting, and connecting with the global community at home and on your terms. I encourage everyone to start your journey right at home and showcase on this global platform. Join Our Growing Community !!

About Me

Hey there! I am Shrijani Vemulapally, a senior at Irvington High School. I am passionate about Robotics, coding, and anything tech-based. I spend my free time exploring different types of software or what I consider cool, like Photoshop, Fusion 360, Video editing platforms, etc., and listening to music and watching movies. Some fun facts about me are that I made two Android apps and I am a polyglot, meaning I can read, write, and speak multiple languages, six to be precise.
In my search for an internship during the lockdown times, I found Design Your Careers. Though it was not an internship, I liked the idea of teaching through online workshops and joined as a student leader. Over the last six months, I have taught 100+ students in the three workshops I conducted on French, Trigonometry, and App Development. I got an amazing response for my first workshop and that gave me a thrill and motivation to continue with DYC. Through these workshops, I learned a lot about interacting with people and I became better in each of those topics I taught. In addition to the workshops, I also had the opportunity to work in the administrative side of DYC, where I got a glimpse of how organizations work and experienced in support tasks, communications, setting up the layouts for other members, a few things I have grown to value.
I have enjoyed my journey with DYC not only because I got the opportunity to reach out and inspire hundreds of students while learning and developing on topics of my interest, but also because it was very flexible to my timings. Due to DYC’s virtual system and flexibility, I was able to put my whole quarantined summer to good use and on my terms. Sharing my skills helped expand my perspective, sharpen my skills and gain self confidence. I thank the DYC core team for creating this opportunity for students like me and I urge everyone to join and create their own specialized journey.
